Why Does SEO Take So Long?

In today’s digital world people want things instantly. SEO however is a journey that can’t be rushed, it won’t happen overnight. So why does SEO take so long exactly?

This blog will give you a small sneak peek into what is involved in the SEO process and explain some of the reasons why it takes so long.

Research

Research is extremely time consuming. We need to research keywords, what you are already using, what you think you should be using and what we think you should be using. I find a lot of the time people want to rank for keywords and phrases that their potential clients aren’t searching for.

We recently reviewed a website that had “SEO” done on it and they had created a heap of landing pages for certain ‘search terms’. They were performing well for them, most were top 5 rankings. It wasn’t generating any sales though. Why? No one was searching for those terms.

Top Tip: If you meet with an “SEO” company and they want to decide keywords and phrases on the spot without any research, run away as fast as you can.

Implementation

After all the research comes the fun stuff! Implementing all the changes takes time. Producing new content takes time to draft, edit, publish and revise.

Starting to reach out to build backlinks takes a huge chunk of time. Finding high quality sites where there is an opportunity to build a link takes time. Reaching out and corresponding with the website owner or blog author takes time. It’s not just a matter of sending 1 email asking for a link, you have to provide them some value.

I’m not going to cover all the technical SEO changes that may also need to be implemented (that’s a blog on its own) but they will take substantial time as well

Review and Revise

Once all changes have been made comes the review process. Changes might not give the desired results so we will have to make some tweaks till we get the desired result. On top of all this if your online competitors are also doing SEO they will respond to your changes so we will have to respond also.

Search results are already very competitive and it is getting harder and harder all the time. Having a solid plan with actionable tasks will over time give you your desired results. Be prepared though, it can be a battle!

Just remember you used to see solid results in 3-6 months of SEO, now it is taking 6-12 months.
