What is SEO

What is SEO?

One of the more common things we get asked about at DNA Web Development is “What is SEO?”

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.

The technical way I could explain it would be “SEO is a series of techniques that makes your website more compatible with search engine algorithms.”

But what does that actually mean though?

Basically it is the process of doing a certain set of things to your website to get it to show at the top end of the search results on search engines such as Google and Bing organically (not paid for).

So why do we care about SEO?

In theory the higher you can get your site to rank the more visibility it will get, which could result in more visitors and in the case of business sites, the potential for more possible customer leads.

There are a lot of factors involved in SEO, for example the Google search engine algorithm has around 200 points that it takes into consideration when ranking a website. The more of these points that you can meet the higher your site will rank in the search engine results.

SEO involves both what you see on the screen such as the way headings are set up and the written content that is on the pages of your website, to what is going on behind the scenes such as what is in the code.

Where does your website rank when you search for it?

P.S.

I want to share one of my favourite SEO jokes (yes there are SEO jokes) - Where is the best place to hide a dead body? On the 2nd page of Google because no one ever looks there 😉
