The World Has Gone Mobile
The world has gone mobile. Look around when you are out next time, Everyone has their phone in their hand. You have heard me talk about Mobile First design philosophy, which DNA Web has adopted for quite a while now. The mobile transition is happening right now before our eyes.
The 18-30 age group hardly own desktop computers anymore, they may have a laptop. Under 18’s may never even own a pc or laptop, they have mobile phones. Kids as young as 10 are getting mobile phones. They will grow up with them and never see the need to own a desktop. Making sure your website works on mobile is so important.
We recently audited a website that was not very old. It was in no way or form designed to work on a mobile screen. We than looked at the company that designed the site, every site they had listed on their portfolio was built the same way. There were some attempts at designing for mobile and tablet but it was done in a very old school way. Don’t get me started on what ramifications the old-school way, to do a mobile website has on your SEO and Google rankings.
Android Overtakes Microsoft
According to Stat Counter Global Statistics, Android for the first time ever was the most used operating system to view the web. Microsoft has been the dominant operating system to view the web since the 1990’s. In March 2017 Android broke Microsoft’s streak.
Different regions have different usage but overall if you combined Android and IOS mobile is dominating. Google tells web developers what it wants from websites, sometimes they tell it straight, sometimes cryptically. Google has moved to a mobile first search ranking. If you aren’t thinking about mobile design your website will be left behind.
Our highest ranking, most successful website project for a client gets over 70% of its visits from mobile phones. 90% of those mobile views use an iPhone. Google Analytics has a wealth of knowledge like this. Any changes we do to this website all get tested on mobile first. It would be a disaster for the client for it to not work on a mobile.
What I want you to do right now – Check your website
I want you to get your phone and look at your website. Does it look right? Can you read the text? Can you easily use the menu? If the answer to any of these questions is No or you’re not sure, then you need to act immediately. DNA Web can Audit Your Website, fill out the form on the link and we will get in contact with you.
If you already have a developer ask them about mobile first design. If they don’t know what that is I would suggest finding a new developer ASAP. Developers who fail to keep up with what is happening in the world of web design are going to leave YOU behind.
